ASDA

Valentine’s Day

On a mission to revive their iconic melody from the 90s, ASDA asked us to flip their melody into a sexy and smooth soul arrangement for Valentine’s Day. It was going to be the song that would play on the record player to set the mood for a hot date-night.

I happened to already have a playlist inspired by Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On that I made for… These kind of briefings I guess.

After exploring multiple directions, including a string heavy Jazz-ballad in 6/8, the client fell in love with this classic 70’s soul arrangement. Gently played drums and percussion, smooth keys and the ASDA melody played by sexy guitar lead.

As an additional request, the client asked for sexy vocals à la Barry White. I asked my friend is he knew a singer in this style, and he happened to have vocals laying around that he recorded fifteen years ago! They fit the track perfectly.

Since the voice-over had a lot to say, the music ended up being quite low in the mix. So definitely check out this radio-edit that we made.
