Rabobank

After creating the brand tune for Rabobank, we have been working on different arrangements of the track in various genres. For this campaign, it was going to be Hip Hip.

For the intro, we needed a more aggressive, adrenaline-infused track. I had a track laying around that I worked on a couple of years ago with Eddy I, a battle-rapper from Staten Island that I met during my beat-making days. Check out this video to see him battle!

After the older man cracks a joke and breaks the tension, we needed a lighter, more accessible track that featured the Rabobank brand tune melody.

We’ve tried multiple arrangements, some of them more contemporary, but the one ended up working was the more old-school, Tribe Called Quest vibe.

The beat came together by a lot of crafting. I had drum recordings laying around that I recorded with one of my favorite drummers: Jamie Peet. I chopped up some of the recordings from the actual brand tune arrangement, added scratches I had laying around and recorded upright bass.

Coming from a Hip Hop background, I’m extra sensitive to what a good beat is, but this arrangement ended up surprisingly authentic. I think it will make DJ Premier proud!
