Tocayos

Tocayos (Spanish for ‘namesake’) is an initiative by Heineken that connects independent bars across Spain that share the same name, helping them stand stronger against large chains and franchises.

They found the perfect song to support this story: ‘Paco, Paco, Paco’ by Encarnita Polo. Not only does it connect lyrically, it’s also a Spanish classic, a nice way to highlight local culture over big chains. We had the honor of creating a new version of the track.

Since the film featured not only ‘Paco’, but also ‘Luis’ and ‘Pepe’, we needed to adapt the lyrics to include those names, while giving the cover a subtle contemporary layer to make it more Heineken.

For the vocals, we collaborated with Piluka Aranguren, a Madrid-based singer who performs tango every Thursday in a local bar.

The most challenging part of the production was the intro, the guitar before the full track kicks in. For this, we worked with another local legend, flamenco virtuoso Víctor Iniesta. It needed to set a Spanish atmosphere without leaning too heavily into flamenco, while supporting the stories of the bar owners and subtly hinting at the melody of ‘Paco, Paco, Paco’.
